When designing your website there are a few basics that every site must have. Today, sites are not as simple as they used to be. You need to consider a few things which include navigation, page depth, user friendly, and the colors. These are very important things if you want to build a successful website.

Navigation is one of the most important things when you build a site. There should be no broken links on the site at all. If you have an online company selling Christmas trees and the link to purchase artificial Christmas trees is broken then no one will buy them. Not only will not be selling any artificial Christmas trees but your users will get upset. If the links are broken then users will go somewhere else to find the products they want to buy. Always be sure your site if fully functional.

When you build a site you need to verify the page depth is also acceptable. Search engines will only index the pages on a web site that are 3 deep. If you have web pages that are more than 3 pages deep they will not be listed on the search engines. You may have some of your best products 5 and 6 pages deep and they will never be found on the search engines. Always be sure your site is 3 pages and less throughout each of the different sections of the site.

Your website needs to be friendly to the users also. When someone visits a site it needs to be easily recognized where you are on the site and how to get back to the home page. If a user is confused or lost on a site they will not try to find their way back to the home page but they will go somewhere else for what they are looking for. The easier your site is to surf through the happier your customers will be.

The colors of your site need to be appropriate for the product and the audience you are targeting. If you have a site targeting elderly people then you don’t want a site with vibrant colors that hurt the eyes. Teenagers love the vibrant colors but elderly people need to see colors that are pleasing to the eyes that are calm like beige and tan. Soft colors are safe for any website. Bright colors are risky and anyone with bad eyes may have a problem viewing your site which will cause them to immediately leave your online business and go somewhere else.

There are many things to consider when you build a website. The basics of a site for you to be successful include things like the site being user friendly, being 3 pages or less deep, the right colors, and easy to navigate through. The better you build your site the more your users will feel comfortable using it. You want users to stick around and check out your site. One way to tell if you are not meeting these basics if by how long it takes for your visitors to leave your site. Always check these statistics.
